| Basic Rules of Online Blackjack |
The basis of every game of Blackjack is pretty much the same.
Before the cards are dealt, every player has to make a wager. The size of this wager varies greatly, but is limited by the table minimums and maximums. After everyone has placed their bets, the game begins…
| |
Two cards are dealt out to everyone at the table. The cards dealt to the players are dealt face up, for all to see. Depending on the variation of the game, the dealer is dealt one or two cards, usually with one face down.
After everyone has received their cards, the dealer goes around the table and offers players a few options:
1. Split. 2. Double down. 3. Hit/stand.
| |
Split
If you are dealt pairs in your original hand, you have the option to split. This means separating the two cards and adding an additional wager (equal to your original wager) on the second hand. This is a little difficult to understand, but this example will help you.
You are playing blackjack. Your bet size is $5. You get dealt two 6’s in your original hand, giving you a total of 12. You should split this hand. You would tell the dealer you want to split your hand, and would wager an additional $5 on the second hand. The dealer would then deal you another card on top of each of your sixes. In essence, you are playing two hands. Then, the hand continues according to normal blackjack rules, but just using two hands.

Double Down
Doubling down is the opportunity for you to increase your bet size but only being permitted to receive one draw card. Once you double down, you can only get one more card, that's it!
| |
Hit/Stand
This is the most common action that players take. After they get their two cards, they have an opportunity to draw more cards to get their card total closer to 21. If they are close enough to 21, or think the dealer is going to bust, they can choose to stand and keep their total.
After you take your desired action to try and get your card total as close to 21 as possible, the dealer will do the same. If they go over 21 and you don’t, you win. There are rules to when the dealer has to take a hit or stay, but these vary with different styles of blackjack.

| Different Variations of Online Blackjack |
| |
Single Deck Blackjack |
| This is traditional blackjack. It is relatively popular, but with the recent emergence of card counters and other forms of cheats, it is being used less and less in casinos. |
| |
Las Vegas Strip Blackjack |
| This is the form of blackjack that is replacing single deck blackjack in casinos. 4 decks of cards are used, and the dealer usually continues hitting until they have 17. The rules for the dealer are usually printed right on the table. |
| |
European Blackjack |
| European blackjack is very similar to Las Vegas strip blackjack, but there are anywhere from 6-8 decks of cards in play. Dealer and player rules vary, depending on where you play. |
| |
Pontoon |
| Popular in Britain, Pontoon is basically the same as any other kind of blackjack, except there isn’t a dealer. Also, only one deck of cards is usually used. Players take turns dealing out the cards. The rules are generally the same as other forms of blackjack. |
| |
Multiplayer Blackjack |
| This form of blackjack offers the most casino like experience. When you sit down at a table online, there will be other players playing at the same table, and even sometimes a live dealer. This allows you to interact with others while you play. |
| |
Progressive Pot Blackjack |
| This is just a way of having special jackpots, if you are dealt special hands. For example, if you are participating in a progressive pot, and you are dealt a specific sequence of cards, you could win a large jackpot. |
| |
Blackjack Tournaments |
| Blackjack tournaments are becoming more and more popular. You pay a buy-in fee, and play against other players, similar to a poker tournament. The one, who has the most chips after a certain amount of hands, wins! |
